First Minister John Swinney visited the 444-home project on the 5th of March 2025 to announce that £16m from the Scottish Government’s Housing Infrastructure Fund will be granted to the City of Edinburgh Council to undertake crucial infrastructure works associated with future phases of affordable housing delivery in Granton.
Mr Swinney’s visit was swiftly followed by Housing Minister Paul McLennan on the 11th of March 2025 when he was given insight into the first phases of the masterplan that have been handed over as well as the development’s pioneering, zero-emissions heating system.
The development forms part of the Granton Waterfront Regeneration, a £1.3bn, 15-year strategy that will transform the once industrial landscape of north Edinburgh into a new, sustainable coastal community, complete with over 3000 new, net zero homes as well as upgraded public and active travel infrastructure, and cultural, leisure, and business centres.
Western Villages is the flagship residential project of the Granton Waterfront Regeneration and is led by the Council in partnership with CCG Homes’ parent company, CCG (Scotland).
